Kodak People
Like all my recent work, 'Kodak People' has its origins in an 'old' book - in this case, a 1955 publication 'The British Journal Photographic Almanac'. The project appropriates figures from Kodak's advertisements in the almanac and transposes them into new 'significance', through layers of intervention and manipulation that include digital drawing; physical drawing in various media; physical and digital collaging, cutting and set construction; digital photography; and digital printing. The outcome takes the form of highly colourful, hyper-real, images in which the 'characters', lifted from their distant, largely forgotten, mid-fifties environment, seem to perform new, potentially meaningful narratives.
